When you pay for professional salon services, you can easily decide whether certain things add up to the cost. For example, excellent customer service, a clean environment and a flattering cut are quickly apparent.
But to some extent you have to trust that your stylist is using and recommending the best products available.
This is yet another aspect of why you trust your hair to a professional: because she makes it her job to know the best new product lines, trends in product formulation and what matters most to her clients.
At the Chameleon, our stylists choose products that promote a healthy lifestyle for our clients without sacrificing the performance of the best professional products on the market. That means we make both free-of-harmful-ingredient formulas and performance top priority.
Another way we earn your trust is by carrying only salon-exclusive lines. You won’t find our products at Walmart. Or Walgreens. In fact, we choose clean-formula products that perform over popular brands because we want to offer you the best.
Because of these reasons, we have recently changed the professional color line we use in the salon. Our former product has lost its exclusivity and no longer meets the standard we are known for. In fact, the former brand we used has developed a new retail color line that’s carried in a major grocery and home goods store.
While the line we used in our salon was professional formula only, there are certain compromises we aren’t willing to make when it comes to our clients’ hair.
So we started the hunt for a new brand that fits our clients’ needs and the standard of excellence met by our other products.
And the new color-changer is Compagnia del Colore!
We researched, tested and evaluated multiple lines before deciding this is the best option to fit the values we deliver. In fact, this Italian line is a low-ammonia formula.
During our testing phase, we noticed other benefits too. Of course, the resulting color is rich and lasting. But we also didn’t have a single person report the awful burning scalp that some color lines cause.
Our favorite part is Compagnia del Colore’s professional color leaves hair feeling like it just got a transformative deep conditioning treatment. That’s a game changer!
Classic looks are at the heart of the Chameleon Salon. But so are our commitments to change, creativity and courage.
You see, they all go hand in hand: You must be courageous to embrace change. And to make your own change, you must enable creativity. If you can do that while maintaining classic elements, you’ve figured out the art of reinvention.
While we often think of reinvention as a means for celebrities to create longevity in their careers, isn’t it also something we all crave? Can’t it just be about continuously bettering yourself? Face it. Do you really want to look, act and feel like you did seven years ago? Ok, ok, maybe you would like to look a bit like you did then, assuming you weren’t rocking barrel-roll bangs. Oh wait, that was longer ago than seven years. And maybe that’s the point. With reinvention, you don’t age; you change.
This is where Chameleon stands. Change is good. Change can be subtle. It’s often subtle changes that are most meaningful. They are the first, tiny step to a you that adapts and evolves over time. They might not be the most noticeable, but they are often the most indicative of who you are becoming.
Alternatively, when you need a big change, it can be cathartic, fun and insanely adventurous. There’s nothing more exhilarating than cutting six inches of dead weight, err hair, or going from dirty blonde to an eye-catching auburn for fall.
Wherever you are in your journey, we will meet you and take that step with you. Won’t you join us in our journey to provide superior service focused on growth through education and warmth from seeing you for who you are and want to become?
Sulfates have earned a reputation as the bad guys in your shampoo. But, as with all bad guys, they can make you feel oh so good.
What are sulfates?
Sulfates are cleansing agents, or detergents. You can find sulfates in your carpet cleaners, toilet cleaning products, engine degreasers – and your shampoo.
Why are they used?
They’ve got muscle. Sulfates produce foam and cut through grease. They are used in shampoo to produce that luxurious lather we love.
Why are they bad?
Just like that bad guy, they feel great but come with some pretty harsh repercussions. As far back as the 70s, sulfates have been found to be irritating to the skin and eyes, and produce allergic reactions. That means problems like scalp irritation, hair loss, dry hair, brittle hair and split ends could be due in part to your shampoo. Not to mention rinsing them down your drain may hurt cute little aquatic animals.
But I love that Lather.
Of course you do. We all do. That lather makes us feel like our hair is getting clean and moisturized, not to mention it produces the lubrication for a great scalp massage.
So when we take the sulfates out of the shampoo, they don’t have that lather? That used to be true. The good news is that more brands are creating sulfate-free shampoos that don’t come with sacrifice.
We carry two brands that have mastered sulfate-free shampoos. They’re the good guys that you want to keep; the ones that are okay to introduce to the parents but just as much fun behind your shower curtain.
Alterna Caviar Brightening Blonde and Replenishing Moisture Shampoo
Alterna’s Caviar line is sulfate-free, paraben-free and gluten-free. The brightening blonde shampoo and conditioner and the replenishing moisture shampoo and conditioner are our most luxurious products. The purple brightening shampoo is thick and produces a creamy lather. It won’t leave you wanting. And it will keep all shades of blonde, both natural and colored, bright and shiny.
Arrojo Shine Luxe and Gentle Shampoo
We have Arrojo’s two sulfate-free shampoos. Arrojo products are our newest addition at The Chameleon Salon. They’re made by a professional and sold only in professional salons. And because they are shipped directly from the company, they don’t come with a double markup. The Shine Luxe formula’s clean scent will remind you of that bad boy without making your hair smell masculine. And it’s rich lather will leave your hair super soft and shiny. Or you can relish in the soft honey scent of their Gentle shampoo. It’s perfect for good girls and boys, or those just trying to pose.
Other Persuasive Facts:
· The Canadian Environmental Domestic Substances List classifies sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) as being toxic or harmful to humans.
· Studies have suggested that SLS has mutagenic properties and may therefore lead to cancer.
As with any adventure of finding the right hair product, it’s trial and error. But sulfate-free shampoos do cost more. So why try every sulfate-free shampoo on the shelves?
